This is a beautiful grahic highlighting the ITIL V3 concepts. So if you are new to ITIL V3, you would like to know that ITIL v3 now focuses a lot on the Why’s and not just the how’s of service management. For example in the past it was trying to focus on how best a service can be delivered based on the requirements at hand. With V3 the approach has changed, the why questions help identify the need and comes from an angle to make the service more sustainable and able to grow. And since business agility is what is at the core of all the best practice approaches, answering the why does bring about a closer alignment and understanding to the business stratery. No longer is strategy an alien excercise limited to the few executives of higher up functions, there is now a deliberate push to realize the strategy and have plan around it. Come to think of it the Plan Do Check Act cycle of which ITIL was based on limited planning to the individual service areas and not to the overall approach. ITIL V3 does that now, planning is given much more significance to enable a better operations outcome.
